Frequently asked questions

Where is Rainglass after I open it?

Rainglass lives in the menu bar – look for the cloud icon at the top right of your screen. Click it to turn the rain on or off and to change intensity, wind, sound and mode. There is no Dock icon.

I don’t see any rain. What’s wrong?

In wallpaper mode (the default), the drops refract your wallpaper, so Rainglass needs the Screen Recording permission. Open the menu and click Fix… or Setup Assistant…, allow Rainglass in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, then restart Rainglass. In over-windows mode the drops are shown without the permission, just without refraction.

Why does Rainglass need Screen Recording?

Only to show what is behind the glass inside the drops – your wallpaper or, in over-windows mode, the windows beneath the drops. The images stay in your Mac’s graphics memory and are never saved or sent anywhere.

How does “Real weather” work?

When you turn on Real weather, Rainglass asks for your approximate location and requests the current conditions from Apple Weather about every 15 minutes. The rain intensity, wind and thunderstorms then follow the weather outside. Without the permission you set everything manually in the menu.

Can I use Rainglass with several displays?

Yes. In Settings → Displays you can turn the rain on or off and choose the mode for each display.

Does Rainglass use much energy?

Rainglass renders with Metal and lowers its frame rate on battery and in Low Power Mode. If you only want the sound, turn on Sound only (no visuals) in the menu.

How do I start Rainglass at login?

Turn on Launch at login in Settings → General. macOS may ask you to allow it in System Settings → General → Login Items.

How do I uninstall Rainglass?

Quit Rainglass from its menu and move it from the Applications folder to the Trash. Your settings are stored only on your Mac. To remove them as well, delete the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.ehinger.rainglass.app.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
